Summary:
"MacSpeech Dictate 1.5 is crashing upon creating a profile with UK Spelling."

Details:

Summary: Dictate 1.5.0 (Build 5006) may crash when creating a Profile with Spelling set to "UK".
The recommended solution is to update to Dictate 1.5.1 (Build 5105).

Issue: To our knowledge the issue only affects UK localization on some machines. Under Dictate 1.5.0, if the Mac OS X International Region Format is set to "United Kingdom" (System Preferences > International > Formats > Region) then a Dictate profile might not be created properly and could crash.

Solution: The recommended solution is to update to Dictate 1.5.1 (Build 5105).

To update Dictate:

  1. Launch Dictate
  2. An Auto-update will come up and ask if you want to update to 1.5.1
  3. Update to 1.5.1

If the update did not happen automatically, do the following:

  1. Launch Dictate
  2. Click the "Check for updates at startup" check box located on the bottom of the Profiles window
  3. Quit Dictate
  4. Make sure you are connected to the Internet
  5. Relaunch Dictate and update to 1.5.1

If you have the "Show Profiles Window" turned off in Dictate preferences, then you will need to update manually:

  1. Quit Dictate
  2. Open System Preferences
  3. Choose International
  4. Choose the Formats tab
  5. Change the Region to "Ireland"*
  6. Make sure you are connected to the Internet
  7. Launch Dictate
  8. Activate or Create a Profile
  9. Go to the Dictate menu and choose "Check For Updates..."
  10. Update Dictate to version 1.5.1
  11. Quit Dictate.
  12. Change System Preferences > International > Formats > Region back to "United Kingdom"*
  13. Close System Preferences
  14. Relaunch Dictate.

*The change to "Ireland" offers the same system formats as "United Kingdom" but prevents the crash with Dictate 1.5.0. Once you update to MacSpeech Dictate 1.5.1, you are able to use the United Kingdom region format with the profiles you created.

If you have any problems updating, please see the instructions for updating, including a download option for the update, at the MacSpeech Dictate Update Center.
